Round two of the Academy Top Four Qualifiers sees Leeds Rhinos head to Robin Park Arena on Wednesday night to take on the unbeaten Wigan Warriors, kick off 7pm.

Just a fortnight after the sides last clashed in a 44-12 win for the Warriors, both sides come into their second meeting of the season with the opportunity to book the first spot in this year's Academy Grand Final. The Rhinos were forced to make a second-half comeback as they saw off the challenge of Castleford Tigers at Stanningley, whilst Wigan came away from a clash with reigning Academy Grand Final champions Warrington Wolves with a 30-20 final score in their opening game, and now a win for either side would move them onto four points and put them in this year's finale with one match to go.

It's been a year of development for a young Rhinos Academy side, who have shown great character to find wins this season. Starting with a run of five consecutive wins against Leigh, Castleford, Bradford, Hull and Huddersfield, the side started to find different ways to win following a disappointing 20-12 loss to Hull KR. That experience, along with key performances against Warrington and Wakefield in their final matches of the regular season, came to the forefront when two Evan Jones tries led a comeback from 14-4 at half-time to win 26-20 against Yorkshire rivals Castleford six days ago and will be important on Wednesday night too.

Star centre Sonny Hetherington continued a try-scoring record against the Tigers that sees him move onto 12 tries for the season, plus the centre is one of only two players to be ever-present in the Leeds side this season. Half back Kai Irvine has also been included in every matchday squad for Leeds, and has found a key partnership with first year Seth Marchant who is the leading goal kicker with 31 this campaign.

Backed up by a 10-game unbeaten run during the regular season, Matty Smith's Wigan Warriors pose a tough test for Leeds as the Cherry and Whites eye up a Grand Final spot too.

Electric full-back Sam Dickenson scored three tries in the meeting with Leeds at the end of July and has been a key threat all season long out of the back, along with Evan Buckley who has impressed at both Academy and Reserves levels. Both players were involved last week in the win over the Wolves that saw the Warriors extend an 18-2 half-time lead to win by a ten-point margin, courtesy of tries from Joe McGann, Tom Farrimond, Conner Oxbury and Alfie Maden. They also look ahead to an away meeting with Castleford, by which point they hope to have confirmed a Grand Final berth.
